Ever since I bought this IZH-46M, it's had a bleed down on bolt closure issue.  I found the IZZY forum and Todd Cooper's disassembly instructions.  Aside from my trepidations, everything comes apart per the instructions.  The valve seal is definitely the culprit.  I reassembled the seals using automotive silicone.  The first cocking gave a good report with a pellet flattened to half length.  The second cocking almost flipped the pistol out of my hand.  The cocking handle kicked back!!  Darn thing was dieseling on compression.

So, a word to the wise.  Let the aerosol carrier evaporate before cocking!!!

May your mileage be better than my last experience.

38 Super: Other than the problems that you are having, how do you like the IZH-46M?  Would the IZH be suffient for air pistol silhouette?

I think mine was a Monday or Friday build ;), very pleased with the accuracy.  You do need to clean out the Russian lube, cross between KY Jelly and cosmoline.  Little nose heavy, my front sight looks like the back car window nodding dog.  Haven't done bullseye in a while, muscles need some work.  From what I've seen in the silhouette forums, @ 500 fps the IZZY is a very good choice (I want to try this, proly a waste of ammo but looks fun!!).

I'm a lefty, so I needed new grips.  The trigger is canted for a RH shooter, very adjustable for position, take up and over travel.

Not thrilled with the available scope bases, gonna work on that.  ATN has a compact Ultra, similar but larger than a JPoint / Doctor .  I have an old TASCO Optima (small dot) that I'll build a mount for.  Will post a pic.

I have to say, this is one of the best Target air pistols for under $300 to your door step.  Gonna get this Izzy running proper and get in some practice with my son (he'll be using my FWB-124).

For all things Izzy IZH-related, if you haven't already, check out this site.

http://www.airguninf...m/46index.shtml

Also, check post #6 in this thread and a later one that breaks down the cost of the mods, VERY COOL! There are also some Izzy's with different scope mounts in the thread.

Yes, I found the airguninfo site.

Thanks Bill!!

I honked up the Izzy scope mount, started again tonite.   Just for giggles, I made a muzzle brake.  It still needs a set screw d & t, and the side ports.   I need to retire and get back to the fun things in life.

Optima scope mount has been roughed out, should be able to see the dot against the front blade.

edit: Still waiting for the valve seal.

Update:  Valve seal installed (#31), and near final sight dial.  Barrel was pretty crudded, 5 patches of Blue Wonder cleaning gel.  Now for some trigger time.

That gun really belongs in a Si-Fi Movie, it just looks so cool, it also looks like it belongs under my X-Mas Tree...let's talk about scope mounts later :D

PD,

Wish I could shoot like Hollywood portrays, I like special effects but that's asking a lot from a pellet. ;)

Was snooping around for compact reddots and found this, kinda pricey.
http://www.atncorp.c...tDigitalCompact

www.Ebinoculars.com has them on sale for $123, no user data.  Will check with my IPSC 3 Gun buddies.

The alternative is lengthen the weaver rail for an UltraDot, dorking on that.  Mounting a heavier optic back from the grip center will increase the held weight but should help the nose heavy feel.

Optima experience: Hard to make small adjustments with accuracy, set screw in plastic.  Seems better to over adjust and bring back.  Works good tho, both eyes open is much less fatiquing.

Jeez, on target my dot looks like a Lissajou pattern.

For those of you that don't know me, I have a ShopTask 3-in-1 machine.  It will make parts, not pretty but will make chips.  Basically I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do the work if I can figure out a way to do it myself.  So for you machinists/DIYers out there, I'm more than happy to help skin the cat, and always open to suggestions.

Dwight and 38super,

I just may have to change my login to Santa Highlander. Check this link out:

http://www.pyramydai...pl?model_id=941

And, if you don't need the nice aluminum case, the same package is $55 cheaper. Looks pretty cool with the red dot and the B-Square rail, doesn't it?  :D  It would just be so cool to have the case too, since you could put one of the large ARGG stickers on it that I'm in the middle of working on and add your name to it.

Or, if you're like 38super and other wise consumers like myself who already have an Izzy and you still want this setup, Pyramyd is offering the B-Square base for $29.95 and the airgun-rated BSA 42mm red dot for $56.85. And, the 10% off coupon codes I posted earlier still work.  :D

Oh, and this just in: Pyramyd just offered remanufactured Izzy's for $239, limited quantities on hand.

Happy Holidays Boys and Girls!

Try this one: H0JN85A2Y3  You enter the coupon code once you're on their checkout page. You lose the free shipping, but on my Izzy and a load of pellets, the 10% still saved me about 6% when compared to the free shipping.

Just stumbled across this, new HUD style optic from UltraDot.

A little spendy at 199.95, but have you priced a Doctor or J-Point lately?

38super,

Have you looked at the package that Pyramyd is selling with the BSA red dot and the B-Square base? The red dot probably isn't as good quality-wise as some out there, but if it's like their target scopes, it's probably pretty functional. Their price for just the red dot and base is still pretty competitive.

Yes, BSA is an amazing brand for the price.  Not the sharpest dot, nor the smallest.  Think of it this way, it's priced to experiment on.  If it breaks, toss it.

A couple desert rat friends bought Beretta NEOS pistols from Sandy at High Desert Storm.  They promptly plopped BSA soup cans on the sight rail and proceeded to smoke everyone at their impromptu falling plate match.     The NEOS is an easy trigger job, except for one !!#%^&#**||* screw that takes a gorilla to budge.

They promptly (actually near all tube reddots) shot the rotary switchl loose  enough to cause blink out.  The internal are secured with eyeglass sized hinge screws which have to be threadlocked.  The screwy part is ADCO, TASCO, and BSA all need a different spanner to remove the ring nut.

Oh, if you want really bright, short out one of the resistors ;)  If you're an IPSC/USPSA toadie, use two batteries and the shorting trick.  Wear sunscreen ;).

Always great info from you Super, thanks. I ordered a "turn key" rig from Pyramid with the BSA and case...I also have a good 2X pistol scope here that used to be on my Model 41 S&W....this may find its way on my IZH46 if they ever send the darn things out....they keep pushing the ship date ahead.

PD,
I'm not suprised the 46M is getting popular, can't beat the price.  Been thinking of making a 1911 style grip.

Bill,
From an IPSC or Action Pistol perspective, reddots had to be bullet-proof(ed).  Top of the line ADCOs, TASCOs, Cee Mores and AimPoints are not immune to shooting loose.  When BSA came along and survived the beating, it got my attention.  Otherwise, we would not have given it a glance.  Heck, if it dies go back to WallyW*rld and get another.
